Are these recycled options really absorbent and long lasting?

Yep. These 2-ply sheets tackle spills and food messes like the kitchen roll you’ve always used. Each double length roll has 135 sheets, meaning (in theory) you could clean 135 messes. Why wrap the rolls individually?
