Should I choose bamboo or recycled paper products?

Ah, one of life’s biggest questions. The answer? It depends. Both eco-friendly toilet paper options look great in your bathroom – but there are some differences to keep in mind:

Our recycled toilet paper is our eco-friendliest choice, while still being super comfy and scrunchable. It’s also a little cheaper and a lot more colourful.
Our bamboo toilet paper wins for strength and softness, making it perfect for picky bums. Plus, its fancy black and white wrappers are a fancy addition to your bathroom. Ooh là là.

Sustainability

Traditional toilet paper is made by chopping down trees, which we think is a big no-no. Using paper that’s already in circulation? That’s a yes-yes!

And before you ask — no, we aren't recycling used toilet paper. We make our TP using post-consumer paper that’s cleaned, treated and heated to zap bacteria, leaving you with sparkly clean rolls.

Frequently asked questions about our 100% Recycled Toilet Paper

How do you whiten the paper?

Toilet paper is often whitened using a harsh chemical called chlorine (aka bleach). But because we care about your cheeks, we whiten our recycled rolls with gentler products, namely Hydrogen Peroxide and Oxygen.

Rumour has it, people get uncomfy when their TP isn’t sparkly white. So by making sure our rolls look the part, we can appeal to more bums and maximise our donations.

Why wrap the rolls individually?

Long story short, our rolls are individually wrapped so that they stay moisture-free and hygienic. We could wrap 6 rolls together (that’s the limit), but we’d need to use a much thicker paper. The net paper used (by weight) to wrap a 6-pack in heavy-duty paper vs. six individual rolls in the thin tissue paper we use is effectively the same. It’s either this or plastic packaging — and we hate plastic.

Does recycled toilet paper work with septic tanks and composting toilets?

Yep, our recycled toilet paper has been tested for disintegration and “flushability” and breaks down in under 10 seconds. (For the record, that’s only 0.42 seconds slower than it takes Usain Bolt to run 100 metres, so we’d say that’s pretty speedy.) If your septic system is particularly sensitive, we’d suggest chatting to your manufacturer about any possible restrictions.
